Tough one to describe, but here goes! The name Chukkawah comes from the sound that a wahwah pedal makes. A wahwah pedal is one of the many pedals used by guitarists, it’s basically a foot operated tone control.
To give you an example of what a wahwah pedal sounds like in action, listen to the start of the Isaac Hayes classic “Theme From Shaft”
– that’s a wahwah cranking it’s stuff.
So, now you know what a wahwah pedal is (educational this FAQ innit!?) you may possibly be ahead of me on the next bit. When a wahwah pedal is pressed down the sound you get out of it, when strumming a guitar, (if written phonetically) is “chikka”. As you bring the pedal up, the sound fills out and starts to sound more like “chukka”. Continuing to bring the pedal up completely and then pressing down again you get the “wah” – do I need to carry on?
